This has been a collaboration between The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, University of British Columbia, and Voirelia. Sarah Louadi and Alina Sotskova are the lead contributors for an original contemporary dance work inspired by stories of brain injury and recovery and by the parallels between the human experience of these phenomena and the neural aspects (what happens inside the brain, at the level of  brain cells, when a person experiences a concussion and when they heal from its effects).

Event Description:

As the universe expands, so does our ability to comprehend it. Our intellect has taken us to space, to the moon, and to Mars, but how much do we know about the brain itself? Like the universe, the mysteries of the brain are still unravelling. And whether we take an analytical approach or look to the arts to interpret what’s going on out there (or in here), there are many, many ways to look at the brain. Join The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health for an interactive evening on the universe of the mind, and come away with a better understanding of your brain through a dialogue with leading experts on neuroanatomy and neurotrauma, plus state-of-the-art visuals and an interpretation of neural processes through dance, all under the dome of the planetarium star theater.
